Welcome

Where do old airplanes go? The lucky ones go to the Air Mobility Command Museum—the only museum dedicated to airlift and air refueling history!

The AMC Museum is one of the rare aviation museums that allows visitors an inside look at some of its aircraft. For visitor safety, the aircraft parked outside may be closed due to weather or tour guide availability. If aviation history is your thing, see several "First, Last or Only" aircraft from jet fighters to a WWII bomber complete with authentic nose art. Experience what it's like to fly a giant airplane—take a seat in one of our flight simulators. Junior aviators can "pilot" a mini-airplane to have their picture taken by mom and dad. It's all free from movies to guided tours.

The museum is located on Dover AFB in Dover, the capital of Delaware. Can't visit us anytime soon? Navigate through our website to enjoy our aircraft and exhibits.

Our B-17G Top Turret

October 26, 2008

The museum's B-17G, "Sleepy Time Gal," will finally receive a top turret, something every comat-configured B-17 should have.

The airplane's original turret was removed over 20 years ago for installation on combat veteran, "Shoo Shoo Shoo Baby," the B-17G that was restored at Dover AFB between 1978 and 1988 and then flown to Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.

The replica turret is being prepared for installation now. We'll keep you up to date on the progress.

A-26 in our hands and ready to be reassembled

September 14, 2008

Good news, the A-26 has arrived and the move itself was flawless. Worldwide Aircraft Recovery, the company that has moved several aircraft for us once again made it look easy. They disassembled the plane in Fargo North Dakota and trucked it to their headquarters in Nebraska, conveniently located near Offutt AFB. The 512th Airlift Wing (the Reserve Wing here at Dover) picked the plane up as part of a training mission for new loadmasters and brought it home. Our restoration crew is already hard at work preparing the plane for reassembly.

A-26s were used here at the Rocket Test Center to test the best ways to mount air-to-ground rockets during WW II.

For more information with pictures regarding the move head on over to the A-26 page.
